Managing Libraries
Digital Diamond Baseball allows you to maintain a collection of libraries, each
with their own set of leagues, divisions, schedules, players, and statistics.
At any given time, one of your libraries will be your active library. The
name of the active library is always displayed in the title bar of the
Main window. All Digital Diamond Baseball
users will have at least one library: the Default Library. When the game
is installed, the Default Library is created and it can never be deleted.
All operations that allow you to manage your collection of libraries are located
in the Library menu. Using the
Library menu you can
create a new library, open an existing library, delete a library, empty a
library, backup a
library, or restore a library. These operations will be described briefly
here. For information about how to add or remove players from a library,
see Creating Custom Libraries.
- Creating a Library:
To create a new library, select the Library->Create a New
Library menu item. After you entering a name for your library, your
library will be created. The files for all of your libraries are stored in
the Libraries folder, which is located
inside the Digital Diamond Installation folder. When a library is created,
the new library becomes the active library.
- Opening a Library:
To open an existing library, select the Library->Open A
Library menu item. After selecting the library you wish to open,
the selected library will become your active library.
- Deleting a Library: To delete a library, select the
Library->Delete A Library
menu item. This will display a list of the libraries that can be deleted.
Neither the Default Library nor the active library can be deleted. If you
wish to delete the active library, you must open a different library before
attempting the delete operation.
- Emptying a Library: To empty the
current library, select the Library-Empty This Library
menu item. This will remove all players, simulated statistics, teams,
and scheduled games from the current library.
- Backing up a Library: It is
always a good idea to backup your player libraries regularly in case your
computer's hard disk fails or some other disaster affects your computer.
Backing up a library can be accomplished by selecting the
Library->Backup Current Library menu item. This operation creates a
backup of your library in the Backups
folder, which is located inside the Digital Diamond Installation
folder. Each time you backup a library, the backup will be stored
in a new folder. The folder's name will contain the date of the
backup. This allows you create multiple backups of your libraries
at various points in time. The file created by the backup
operation is a zip file that contains everything related to your
library including boxscores and play-by-play accounts. Backing up
a library is also useful when you are running a league with other
players (see Running a League).
- Restoring a Library: You can easily restore a library from a backup by selecting the
Lirary->Restore A Library menu item. If the
name of the library you are restoring matches the name of a library already on
your system, the existing library will be completely replaced by the
backup. If your system currently does not have a library with the same
name as the backup library, a new library will be created for you and it will be
initialized with the contents of the backup. In either case, the restored
library will become the active library when the restore is complete. Restoring a library is also useful when you are participating in a league with other
players (see Running a League).
The backup/restore feature is an excellent way to share libraries with your
friends or with the Digital Diamond community. If you create a great
library and you want to share it, just back it up and then email the backup to
the people you want to share it with. Your friends can use the restore
feature to install the library and begin using it to play games. It is
that easy to share libraries with Digital Diamond Baseball! This feature is also great for running a league (see Running a League).
